AI Automation for Leaders Workshop, Jan 2026

At the beginning of 2026, I hosted an intensive workshop for C-level executives focused on a singular goal: demystifying AI automation.
What I quickly realized during our sessions is that the fundamental barrier isn't technical complexity. The tools themselves are not inherently difficult to operate. Instead, the true challenge lies in adapting to an entirely new way of working.
Software developers are conditioned to embrace a new framework or utility every other week. It is woven into the fabric of engineering culture. For most business leaders and operational teams, however, the workflow has remained largely static for years. They often require a deliberate, external push to finally break old habits and adopt these new tools.

The Work is the Mindset, Not the Tool
In my experience, leaders spend too much time agonizing over which language model to subscribe to, or which enterprise AI platform will magically resolve their operational debt. But before you even attempt to master a specific tool, you must first embrace an automation and data-first mindset.
AI is only as intelligent as the context it is given. If your internal documentation is fragmented, no amount of prompt engineering will yield reliable results. True automation begins by looking at the mundane, repetitive tasks your team performs daily and asking: "How can we structure this data so an AI can process it?"
Once that mindset is established, selecting the appropriate tools for different jobs becomes a matter of pragmatic utility rather than overwhelming hype.
Where You Should Start
If you are a leader staring at the vast landscape of AI solutions and wondering where to begin, my advice is simple: start with NotebookLM.
It is entirely free, requires zero technical background to operate, and perfectly illustrates the power of a data-first approach. By uploading your own documents, you immediately experience how a focused AI tool can synthesize, organize, and retrieve your specific corporate knowledge. It forces you to interact with your data differently—and that is the crucial first step.
The reception at the workshop was phenomenal because we moved past the theoretical hype and focused on this pragmatic mindset. The technology is ready. The question is whether your operational habits are ready to evolve alongside it.
